Unlike other British accents, Received Pronunciation (RP) isn’t linked to a specific region — instead, it’s historically associated with a higher social class and formal education.
Modern RP is softer. You wouldn’t sound like a royal but still associated with education and a high social class
For years, it was the voice of the BBC and many people still think of it as the “proper” way to speak, which is why it’s so familiar to audiences everywhere.
Because of that, RP voices are in high demand and are often the first choice of a British voice for casting directors. (RP is often referred to as the “neutral British accent”)
If you’re a voice actor looking to add something solid to your toolkit, RP can open up more doors and help you land more jobs.
In this 4-week course, you will:
-
Learn the building blocks of the accent
-
Fine-tune the sounds with personal guidance
-
Practice speaking
and even perform scenes where you bring different characters and emotions to life —
all in your new (though historically very old!) accent.
& You won’t just learn how to speak in RP.
You’ll also pick up tools for how to approach any accent.
So in the future, whether you want to take on a Texan drawl or a soft Irish lilt, you’ll know exactly how to get started.

Your teacher: Sandra Gayer
Hi, I’m Sandra
I'm a blind voiceover artist.
I’m also a classically trained soprano singer, a stage and TV actor and a radio presenter.
As a voice actor, I’ve worked on animations, audiobooks, commercials, explainers, radio and more.
But my special love is for learning and using different accents.
I can convincingly speak with accents from America to New Zealand plus multiple UK regions but my daily accent is modern RP.
Listening is a key skill in learning an accent.
As a blind performer, I’ve had a lifetime of this and I’m so excited to teach you how to listen and what you need to pay attention to so you too can speak RP like a native Brit.
